The fee for after-the-fact small business bookkeeping is based on the number of balance holding accounts used by the client organization or family and the basis of accounting the organization elects to use. Individuals and most self-employed individuals use a cash basis of accounting by default and rarely benefit from electing a method different from cash basis. IRS Publication 538 describes the different methods of accounting.
